A Farewell and Thanksgiving Feast to Remember

The morning of Sunday, 7th March 2024, dawned crisp and clear, setting a perfect stage for a momentous occasion at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School. It was not just an ordinary Sunday; it was a Thanksgiving celebration for the Holy Cross family to express genuine gratitude to the Almighty for the exceptional academic achievements of the previous year. The event also served as a heartfelt farewell to the former Provincial Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross, East Africa Province, Reverend Father Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C.

Peculiarly, the Mass was animated by the staff, who took this rare opportunity to lead the congregation in prayer and celebration. Adorned in their Sunday best, the entire Holy Cross family gathered in the chapel, awaiting the arrival of Reverend Father Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C. With reverence and solemnity, he approached the altar, ready to lead the congregation in an inspiring session of thanksgiving and worship.

In his homily, Father Cyprian reminded the congregation of the boundless love, care, and concern that Jesus has for His people. Speaking with compassion and conviction, he emphasized the importance of charity and giving back to those in need. His words resonated deeply, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all present, inspiring them to embrace kindness and generosity in their daily lives.

The atmosphere was electric with excitement as the staff choir, clad in vibrant new uniforms, led the offering and thanksgiving session. Their harmonious melodies filled the chapel, their voices rising in joyous hymns of praise and worship. As they swayed enthusiastically to the music, the chapel reverberated with an infectious energy that lifted spirits and created a profound sense of peace and reverence.

As the Mass neared its climax, a student stepped forward, holding two beautifully wrapped gifts. The congregation watched in awe as the gifts were revealed: stunning, lifelike portraits of Reverend Father Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C., and Reverend Father Peter Caxton Mayanja, the incoming Provincial Superior. The intricate detail of the artwork captured the essence of the priests’ ministerial dedication, leaving both men visibly moved. Their smiles, a blend of surprise and gratitude, spoke volumes about the significance of this gesture.

Following the Mass, the celebration continued with speeches and musical performances. Babita Mary and Kazimoto Fortunate, the students’ representatives for the previous year’s UCE and UACE examinations, shared heartfelt testimonials about their academic journeys. Their words inspired their peers and underscored the transformative impact of a supportive and nurturing school environment.

The Head Teacher, Reverend Father Prosper Atukwatse, C.S.C., addressed the gathering with pride and enthusiasm. He commended the former candidates for their hard work and urged them to maintain their dedication as they ventured into new academic and life pursuits. To honor their achievements, Father Prosper presented scholarship letters to the outstanding UCE students and tokens of appreciation to the top-performing UACE candidates. The hall erupted in cheers and applause, celebrating the school’s unwavering commitment to fostering excellence.

In a special moment of recognition, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to Reverend Father Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C. The outgoing Provincial Superior received it with a heartfelt smile, visibly touched by the gesture. During his handover speech, Father Cyprian expressed deep gratitude to the school community for their unwavering support. He reminisced about the cherished memories shared during his tenure and pledged his continued support to Holy Cross Lake View SSS.

The day culminated in a sumptuous meal, where laughter and conversation flowed freely. The dining hall buzzed with joy as the Holy Cross family bonded over delicious food, embodying the spirit of love, gratitude, and togetherness. Every bite served as a reminder of the unity and abundance that characterized this memorable occasion.

The Thanksgiving and Farewell Feast of 2024 will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who attended.
