Fire safety is a crucial aspect of maintaining a safe and secure environment, especially in educational institutions. With the recent increase in fires affecting schools in Uganda, it has become more important than ever to educate students on fire prevention and emergency response protocols.
At Holy Cross Lake View, we recently had the privilege of hosting two police officers from the Fire Brigade department of the Uganda Police. On March 23, 2024, these officers conducted a comprehensive fire drill for our students, focusing on fire safety measures and prevention strategies.
During the session, students were taught about the elements of fire, common causes, and how to prevent fire incidents. They were also trained on the proper use of a fire extinguisher, including techniques such as pushing, aiming, squeezing, and sweeping. The hands-on experience of operating a fire extinguisher helped students gain practical skills that could be crucial in case of an emergency.
The fire drill had a positive impact on our students, raising awareness about fire hazards and preparing them to respond effectively in case of a fire emergency. We are grateful to the school administration for their support in organizing this important training session, and we look forward to conducting more fire drills to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
By instilling a culture of safety consciousness and preparedness, we are taking proactive steps towards creating a safer learning environment for everyone at Holy Cross Lake View.
