Shaping responsible citizens: patriotism training at Holy cross lake view sss

The Form 1 and 5 students of Holy Cross Lake View SSS recently participated in a comprehensive patriotism training program, held from May 26th to June 2nd, 2025. The training aimed to instill norms and values among youth and students, promoting national consciousness and patriotism.

During the training, students gained knowledge about Uganda’s history, significant events, and influential figures. They also engaged in discussions about current events and issues affecting Uganda, fostering a deeper understanding of national challenges. Additionally, students participated in discussions about national pride, unity, and individual responsibility, promoting a sense of patriotism. They learned and sang patriotic songs and wore clothing that showed national pride, celebrating Uganda’s rich cultural heritage.

The Pass-Out Ceremony

 The pass out ceremony was held on 2nd June 2025 with Mr. Richard Gulume Balyaino, the Resident City Commissioner – Jinja City as the guest of honor. He emphasized the importance of patriotism in instilling discipline and direction in life. He congratulated the students for persevering in the weeks training and appealed to them to remain focused on their education.

Mr. Gulume encouraged students to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the training to become responsible citizens.

He completed by officially declaring the students’ full cadets, marking their completion of the patriotism training.

The government of Uganda launched patriotism clubs in schools in 2009 to instill norms and values among youth and students. The Ministry of Education and Sports sees patriotism as a pillar of character education, aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040.

By participating in this patriotism training program, Holy Cross Lake View SSS aims to shape its students into responsible, engaged, and patriotic citizens who will contribute to the development and prosperity of Uganda.
