The new term at Holy Cross Lake View S.S.S commenced with an engaging induction program on February 3, 2025. This special day marked the beginning of a term filled with fresh opportunities and was centered around the selected theme of the year “I am a changemaker.”
The day kicked off at 7:30 AM with a lively praise and worship session led by enthusiastic students, fostering a sense of community and encouraging everyone to recognize the presence of God in their lives.
Mr. Luvunya Geoffrey, the Head of the English Language Department, served as the emcee for the induction, as his department took the lead this week. He stressed the importance of English, stating, “English is the only official language of our school,” and urged students to communicate in English, work diligently, and strive for academic excellence.
The school counselor, Mrs. Kashaka Samali, welcomed students back after the long holiday and expressed gratitude to the parents for their support in providing school fees and materials necessary for students to return. She emphasized the importance of time management for academic success and encouraged students to respect themselves and their teachers. Mrs. Kashaka invited students to reach out to the counseling department or any teacher they are comfortable with for guidance or to discuss any concerns.
Fr. Prosper Atukwatse C.S.C, the headteacher, welcomed the students back and reinforced the theme “I am a changemaker.” He urged students to maintain discipline to create a positive environment as they embark on this journey together. He discussed the need to take care of school property, especially with new dormitories set to open later in March. Fr. Prosper advised students to prioritize academics, reminding them not to focus on minor distractions at the expense of their education. He concluded by encouraging students to cultivate a reading habit as a foundation for their academic progress.
Following this, Fr. Douglas Alinaitwe C.S.C, the school chaplain, began with a prayer, encouraging students to seek divine guidance in their endeavors. He highlighted significant upcoming dates such as Recollection Day on March 2 and Ash Wednesday on March 5, which marks the beginning of Lent. Fr. Douglas noted that this term is particularly special, culminating in Easter, when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He encouraged students to engage actively in mass, promoting joy in serving the Lord and concluded with a blessing for a fruitful term.
A focus on cleanliness was also emphasized, as maintaining a tidy environment aligns with our values at Holy Cross Lake View. Class teachers held meetings to discuss the election of class leaders, establish class rules, and outline plans for a successful term. These discussions were crucial for ensuring smooth academic operations, with an emphasis on discipline, time management, and cooperation.
Deacon Matayo Bwanandeke, C.S.C., highlighted the importance of adhering to the school dress code, reminding students that indecent attire is not permitted. He praised those who wore their uniforms appropriately and encouraged students to label their clothing to promote accountability and smartness within the school.
Mr. Bright John, the Deputy Academics, also addressed the students, calling for a commitment to academic discipline this year. He stated, “To me, I count every student blessed,” encouraging students to stay focused and strive for excellence. He urged them to avoid selfishness and support one another, emphasizing the importance of valuing their academic journey, especially in light of the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians. Mr. Bright called on students to prepare diligently for the upcoming exams on February 5, 2025, and shared key strategies for success, including goal setting, time management, minimizing distractions, seeking guidance, developing effective study habits, maintaining a positive attitude, and taking care of their health.
Mr. Odong Denis, the sports master, also communicated with the students, emphasizing the need for cooperation as the term promises numerous activities. He mentioned both internal events, such as cross country and the Easter Cup, and external competitions like district quarterfinals and basketball tournaments, encouraging students to actively participate.
As changemakers, we believe that this induction, along with the motivational messages from our staff, will empower our students to approach this term with renewed enthusiasm, energy, and passion. We look forward to celebrating many achievements throughout the term and beyond.
