The journey toward a career in law is rarely defined solely by academic instruction. Rather, it is shaped by institutions that cultivate discipline, resilience, ethical consciousness, and leadership. For me, Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School served as the foundational institution upon which both my personal character and professional aspirations were built. The values instilled during my time there continue to inform my approach to advocacy, public service, and the pursuit of justice.
Holy Cross Lake View S.S.S was not merely an academic institution; it was an environment intentionally designed to nurture professionalism, integrity, and moral responsibility. The school cultivated in me a unique appreciation for discipline, accountability, and service to society, principles indispensable to the legal profession. In many respects, the Holy Cross served as the formative ground for my understanding of leadership and civic duty through programs like Job Shadow.
One of the most transformative aspects of my experience at Holy Cross was the opportunity to engage with diverse groups of people in dynamic social and academic settings. Through public speaking engagements, leadership responsibilities, and interactions with large audiences, I developed the invaluable skills of communication, confidence, and approachability. These experiences prepared me to navigate unfamiliar environments with composure and professionalism, qualities essential to legal practice, particularly in litigation, advocacy, and policy engagement.
The institution also played a critical role in shaping my discipline, which remains the cornerstone of both my personal and professional life. Legal practice demands rigorous concentration, intellectual endurance, and profound commitment to principle. The structured and demanding environment at Holy Cross taught me the importance of persistence and focus, even in the face of adversity. It was within those challenging moments that I learned to fight for purpose and to recognize that adversity often refines one’s calling rather than diminishes it.
Indeed, my time at Holy Cross was positively challenging and profoundly transformational. It instilled in me the conviction that determination and perseverance can transcend circumstance. More importantly, it awakened within me a responsibility to become a symbol of hope and possibility for ambitious young people across Africa and for communities of color throughout the Americas. The lessons I acquired there extended beyond the classroom; they shaped my worldview and reinforced my belief that education must ultimately serve humanity through justice and equality. I don’t forget the engagements I had with peers about European History, African History, and Philosophy, even at a young age as an entertainment minister. These conversations were intriguing.
As I continue to advance in the legal profession, my aspirations remain firmly rooted in civil rights advocacy and policy reform. I intend to work alongside organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union in advocating for the civil rights of people of color globally. My legal focus will include advancing policies to ensure equitable access to justice, improve governmental accountability, and streamline service delivery for those in need and historically marginalized communities. Additionally, I remain committed to pro bono legal work, particularly in support of immigrant families across the United States who often face systemic legal and social challenges.
Holy Cross Lake View S.S.S represented far more than a school experience; it was the beginning of a transformative journey toward purpose-driven leadership. It is an institution that inspires a mindset reset, nurtures a service and love for caring for the poor, and empowers students to envision a future grounded in excellence, service, and impact within their communities.

Humphrey Norman Mugoya. Is a Holy Cross Lake View Alumnus, Class of 2019. He joined Marwadi University, India, after completing S.6 at Holy Cross Lake View, where he graduated with a first-class BA LLB in Crime and Criminology.
On 22, May 2026, Humphrey graduated from Boston College Law School with a Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in Human Rights and Immigration Law where he earned the prestigious Pro Bono Excellence Award, recognizing his role in navigating the hurdles of international relocation and asylum for those in need. He is now set to join the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as a Racial Advocate. In this role, he will focus on civil rights work through policy investigations.
